Newsletter 144: The Dual Life of a Dyslexic Thinker

🧠Hiding in Plain Sight and Embracing Strengths

Introduction: Embracing the Dyslexic Journey

Hello, friends and fellow adventurers in thought! It's Matt Ivey, and in this edition of our newsletter, I'm opening up about my personal dyslexic journey – a tale of hiding, seeking, and ultimately finding strength in what I once saw as weaknesses.

The Dual Life of a Dyslexic Thinker

Growing up with dyslexia, I often felt like I was living two lives. Outwardly, I was the teacher's pet and the sports team captain, always in the spotlight. This facade was my way of masking my dyslexia, hiding my insecurities and fears of falling behind.

Hiding in Plain Sight and Embracing Strengths

I became adept at hiding in plain sight, using my strengths to overshadow my challenges. This constant push to appear confident and capable was a shield against the vulnerability I felt inside.

The Art of Perspective and Storytelling

One of the gifts of dyslexia I’ve come to value is the ability to see things from multiple perspectives and work on several fronts simultaneously. This ability is heightened when I'm in a flow state or engaged in projects I'm passionate about. It allows me to approach problems and ideas with a unique, 360-degree perspective.

Coaching: Harnessing the Power of Narrative

Storytelling has become a vital tool for me. I often communicate through stories and metaphors, making complex ideas more accessible and engaging. Coaching has been a natural progression, allowing me to use storytelling to guide, teach, and connect with others.

Learning from Mistakes: Embracing the Process

Dyslexia has taught me the power of learning from mistakes and the importance of embracing the entire process, not just the final product. This realization led me to share more openly – not waiting for perfection, but celebrating each step, flaw, and success.

From Self-Doubt to Self-Discovery

The journey involved overcoming self-doubt and finding ways to independently find answers and solutions. It instilled in me resilience and a unique approach to problem-solving, even if it required more effort.

Conclusion: Finding and Sharing the Hero's Journey

This newsletter, this platform, is about more than sharing my story – it's about helping others find their path, their own hero's journey. Whether through coaching, sharing experiences, or simply being present, our stories and perspectives have the power to inspire and guide.

Join me in this adventure of learning, growing, and embracing the dyslexic way of thinking – a journey where every perspective, every story, and every challenge is a part of our collective strength.
