Morning Coffee Chat with Coach IV: Embracing Neurodivergence
Hello, dear friends,
As I sit here with my first cup of coffee of the day, I'm excited to share some thoughts with you on a topic that's very close to my heart - the unique experiences of adults diagnosed with neurodivergent conditions such as dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and others.
You're in Good Company
Firstly, if you're an adult who has recently been diagnosed with a neurodivergent condition, I want you to know that you're in good company. Many adults receive their diagnoses later in life. If you've always felt a bit different but couldn't quite put your finger on why, know that there are many others out there who share your experience.
Your Journey is Valid
Growing up without the necessary support or accommodations can be incredibly challenging. I want to take a moment to validate your struggles and let you know that your experiences are real, important, and heard.
Your Path is Unique, Not Wrong
Have you ever been told you're doing things wrong? Well, I'm here to tell you that there are multiple ways of doing things. Your approach is not wrong, it's just unique. And that's something to celebrate!
Systemic Bias Exists
It's important to acknowledge that our societal and educational systems often favor a certain way of thinking. If you've ever felt out of sync, it's not a personal failing but a reflection of systemic bias. We need to work together to change this.
Moving Forward Together
As we move forward, I want to assure you that I am committed to providing the necessary support and accommodations for neurodivergent individuals, regardless of the age at which they are diagnosed. I aim to educate others about neurodivergence to foster understanding and acceptance. I also advocate for changes in societal and educational systems to accommodate diverse ways of thinking.
Your experiences are driving this change. I see and acknowledge your unique way of thinking and doing things. Your perspective is valuable and needed.
As I finish my coffee and the dawn breaks, I want to thank you for joining me on this journey. Remember, you are not alone, and your way of thinking is not only valid but also incredibly valuable.
Until our next coffee chat,
Matt "Coach IV" Ivey,
