My Hero's Journey: Dyslexia, ADHD, and the Power of Physical Activity

Hey there,

It's Matt "Coach IV" Ivey, Founder of www.dyslexic.ai, here, sharing some thoughts over my first cup of coffee at 5 AM. I want to take you on a journey today, my journey, through the world of dyslexia, ADHD, and the transformative power of physical activity. So, grab your coffee, sit back, and let's dive into this story.

Act 1: The Struggle with Stillness

Imagine a young boy, full of energy, struggling to sit still in a traditional classroom. That was me. ADHD made sitting still feel like trying to hold back a river with a sieve. This wasn't just in the classroom; it was phone conversations, office work, you name it. If you've ever felt like a fish out of water in a similar situation, you're not alone.

Act 2: The Call to Adventure - Discovering Physical Activity

In my quest to manage this constant need for movement, I stumbled upon a lifeline - sports. It was like finding an oasis in a desert. Sports became my outlet, my escape. It provided a unique way of thinking and learning, especially as a non-linear thinker. I also discovered that sports could foster leadership skills. It was a game-changer, a call to adventure that I gladly accepted.

Act 3: The Trials - Sports and Education

Sports became more than just a hobby; it was my motivation to persevere in school and maintain good grades. The prospect of playing basketball in college was a significant incentive. But then came the trials. When I had to stay home after my dad had a heart attack, and the opportunity to play college basketball was lost, I found it extremely difficult to stay motivated. This experience taught me the importance of finding your own motivational tools.

Act 4: The Transformation - An Entrepreneur's Approach

As an entrepreneur, I've found that creating a flexible work environment that allows for movement throughout the day has been a lifesaver. It's helped me harness the energy associated with ADHD and dyslexia in a productive way. This transformation has been a crucial part of my journey.

Act 5: The Return - Sharing Our Stories

Now, I've shared a part of my journey with you, and I'd love to hear from you. Have you found physical activity beneficial? Do you have similar experiences or strategies for managing your energy in a positive way? Let's share our stories and experiences. After all, we're all on this journey together.

Until next time,

Matt "Coach IV" Ivey
